Influences are so so many, that whenever I say something, it is either taken from someplace or at least I get a feeling it is. As important as it is at times to read, see, hear or basically experience a multitude of situations in order to produce, it is furthermore needed that one ponders upon whatever one has gained as a result this reception. It can be seen that not every member of the audience goes on to become a performer of virtue, not every reader a writer, and so on. It is the strength, and may be craving of creation; the impulsive feeling that apart from all this that exists around already, there remains something that is yet to be created, something that is still to arrive. This is definitely evident with respect to new ideas and inventions, but I feel – I mean at least to me – this might not occur automatically to a receiver as to why this piece of art was conceived in the first place. He would go on enjoying it, going again and again over its details, and cherish the experience, if it turns out to be so memorable. Knowing about the maker can give a whole new insight into the process of enjoyment. One can attempt to understand the kind of thoughts that have gone into the making of something that is now before him.
Creation comes as a marriage of your roots and the new things that you have picked up. Although a good piece is a brilliant blend of these two, I think the creator has to have clear understanding of his roots and his influences; only then can he mix the two in the best way. The definition of cool is not something which is ‘in’ today and might be ‘out’ tomorrow, but it’s mostly something that stays, and – this addition is for me – makes sense through its simplicity. If you take on whatever that comes along with your clear basics, you wouldn’t just get swayed so easily with the one day’s cool; but you might just be able to imbibe something lasting, that could go on taking a place in your influences bag.
