i always thought there would be like a lot of book reviews on my blog as i consider myself to be an avid reader (....?). but somehow i could never put myself down to review a book after reading it. i would just, may be tell someone about it, at the most, and move on to a new book.
so now i am makin this maiden attempt to review jeffery archer's 'a twist in the tale', which, i hope does not become an abortive effort.
first of all, am like a huge fan of jeffery archer's books, especially his short stories and this was like his last collection of short stories that i could lay my hands on. and this actually was actually one of the first short story books he wrote. so i apparently had read his better works before this, so i didnt really enjoy this book as much as i had expected myself to do.
there are 12 stories. the first one, 'the perfect murder' is an awsome story and has got a great twist to it at the very end. 'clean sweep ignatius' sounded very cliched to me. 'a la carte' was again a great story of a father's honest attempt at making his son understand and fulfill his dreams. 'just good friends' is a very lame one, and am sure it is one of the two stories which are of the author's own imagination. 'not the real thing' is utterly entertaining, a typical archer-like story which does have a quite unexpected but very realistic a twist to it. then comes 'the steal', the story of a couple who cleverly take away their object of interest in spite of the annoying company of another couple. 'colonel bullfrog' becomes a good read as it is an unusual yet sounds very real ( and could be...). 'wine taster' is a proper british story. 'checkmate' is a nice one, with a cute twist. 'a chapter of accidents' is again a predictable story, but does not fail to entertain you. the same holds good for 'the loophole'. the last story, 'christina rosenthal' is an exceptional and amazing story, which, for me, becomes the second best in the book, the first being 'the perfect murder'.
so it seems, all in all, that i actaully liked this book, contrary to what i said earlier... the book s so old that i guess everyone must ve read it by now,... and this review hardly counts...! but this is like my start for reviews! (hope so..) thats all for now. period.
